Football Recap: Marian Catholic vs. Minersville Battlin' Miners

If Marian Catholic was riding high fresh off their 35-13 takedown of Mahanoy Area last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Marian Catholic had to suffer through a 38-7 loss at the hands of the Minersville Battlin' Miners. Marian Catholic was red-hot offensively heading into the contest (they scored no less than 31 points in the three games prior), but Minersville's defense proved too tough.

Marian Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Rory Dixon.

Dante Carr was his usual excellent self, rushing for 146 yards and one score on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 168 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 passes for Minersville. Carr's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Derek Derenzo, who rushed for 72 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries.

Having lost for the first time this season, Marian Catholic fell to 5-1. As for Minersville, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
