Baseball Recap: California Comes Up Short

California extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 12-10 in the process. They lost 7-1 to the De La Salle Spartans. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Grizzlies have suffered since March 1st.

California saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Olberg, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for De La Salle, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 19-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.

On De La Salle's side, Graham Schlicht tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Schlicht has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Antonio Castro was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Niko Baumgartner was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

While California had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
