Softball Recap: Chicago Washington Takes a Loss

Chicago Washington fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Brooks on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 19-18. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Julianna Rodriguez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 7.1 innings while giving up four earned (and 14 unearned) runs off five hits. Rodriguez was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mia Menchaca stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 4-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Erika Estrada, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.

Chicago Washington's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Brooks, they moved to 2-4 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.
