Recap: Corinth Holders Pirates vs. Garner Trojans
The Corinth Holders Pirates''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 37-14 loss at the hands of Garner. While losing is never fun, Corinth Holders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 215th, while Garner is ranked 76th).
Jacob Cline and Camden Minter certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Cline picked up 136 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Minter threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Cline's longest reception was for an incredible 76 yards.
Even if they lost, Corinth Holders' defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Garner's QB was sacked three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jordan Ashworth and his two sacks.
Corinth Holders' defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-0 Cleveland (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66.7% over those games). As for Garner, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Corinth Holders does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Garner will be playing at home against Wake Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wake Forest is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
