Burke Catholic will take on the Monticello Panthers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Burke Catholic will be strutting in after a win while Monticello will be coming in after a defeat.
Burke Catholic gave up the first points last Friday, but they didn't give up any more after. They came out on top against O'Neill by a score of 21-14. Burke Catholic hasn't had any issues with O'Neill recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Burke Catholic relied on the efforts of Lucas Rodriguez-Lopez, who rushed for 39 yards and one TD, and Jayce Lee, who picked up 97 receiving yards and one score. Lee showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 56 yards. Marco Langley got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Burke Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Langley, Tristan Matos, Rodriguez-Lopez, and Joe Cuebas picked up one apiece. Matos is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least seven every time he's taken the field this season. Langley got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Monticello fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Spackenkill last Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 30-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans. The Panthers' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it six in a row dating back to last season.
Defeat or not, Monticello got some senior leadership from Seth Jackson and Jahvarri McIntosh. Jackson threw for 186 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while McIntosh picked up 104 receiving yards and one score.
Monticello's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Burke Catholic, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Everything came up roses for Burke Catholic against Monticello when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 56-8 victory. Will Burke Catholic repeat their success, or does Monticello has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
