Softball Recap: Powers' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

Powers dropped their record down to 5-2 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Toledo Boomers, falling 12-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Boomers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 on April 4th.

As for Toledo, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 11-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.

For Toledo's part, Kealey Coxen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up ten Ks. With that strong performance, Coxen is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Toledo let Gracee Retherford and Lindsey Otis run wild. Retherford went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Otis went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Retherford a new career-high. Faith Retherford was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Powers is set to square off against their familiar foe Gold Beach at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Toledo will face off against rival Reedsport at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
