Baseball Recap: Juniata Valley Triumphs

Juniata Valley lost to Moshannon Valley back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Hornets walked away with a 5-1 win over the Black Knights/Damsels. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Kyler Spurlin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Ethan Scalia was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Johns, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Juniata Valley's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Moshannon Valley, they dropped their record down to 2-4 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Juniata Valley will welcome West Branch at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Moshannon Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rockwood at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
