Basketball Recap: Miami-Yoder Comes Up Short

Miami-Yoder suffered their closest defeat since January 28th on Saturday. They fell just short of the Deer Trail Eagles by a score of 41-38. The Buffaloes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Miami-Yoder lost, don't look at Jessa Book. Despite the final result, she posted 14 points along with eight boards and five steals. Book has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Madison McKnight was another key player, putting up three points in addition to 18 rebounds and three steals.

Deer Trail's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Fatuma Hussein, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. Those 15 points gave Hussein a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Megan Donovan, who scored nine points and seven rebounds.

Miami-Yoder's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Deer Trail, their record now sits at 2-0.

Miami-Yoder didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 40-17 win against Monument Academy on the 10th. As for Deer Trail, they will head out to square off against Liberty Tree Academy at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
