Soccer Game Preview: Montbello vs. Denver North

The Montbello Warriors will take on the Denver North Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Montbello has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with 13 straight losses, while Denver North will come in with five straight wins.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Montbello's offense. They came up short against Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday, falling 4-0. While losing is never fun, Montbello can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado soccer rankings (they are ranked 209th, while Thomas Jefferson are ranked 84th).

Meanwhile, Denver North hadn't done well against Northfield recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Nighthawks 2-1. Pearl Phillips had the honor of scoring the game-winner for Denver North.

Denver North's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up three goals over those seven games. As for Montbello, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.
