Basketball Recap: Edcouch-Elsa Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Edcouch-Elsa waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They had just enough and edged the Pace Vikings out 51-49. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Yellowjackets have posted since December 2, 2023.

Leading Edcouch-Elsa to victory were Rolly Garza and Erasmo Tamez. Garza went 5 for 7 en route to 16 points, while Tamez posted 14 points and five boards. Garza's evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Ramirez, who earned six points and five rebounds.

Edcouch-Elsa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Edcouch-Elsa's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.8 points per game. As for Pace, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

When Edcouch-Elsa and Pace next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Edcouch-Elsa will challenge Weslaco East and their 13-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Pace will try to stop Lopez's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
