The Effie Kokrine Charter Warriors will face off against the Tok Wolverines on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Effie Kokrine Charter has three straight wins, Tok has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Last Saturday, Effie Kokrine Charter didn't have too much trouble with Fort Yukon as they won 74-55. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Eagles are ranked 82nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Effie Kokrine Charter will have to keep a close watch on Chairo Espinosa and Marvin Captain, a pair of players who had a big impact on Tok's prior game. Espinosa dropped a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Captain put up 22 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Espinosa continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lucas Hipp, who scored five points and ten boards.
Even though they lost, Tok smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 19 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Tok's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Effie Kokrine Charter, their victory bumped their record up to 14-1.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Effie Kokrine Charter hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 64.3 points per game. However, it's not like Tok struggles in that department as they've been averaging 55.4 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Everything went Effie Kokrine Charter's way against Tok when the teams last played back in January, as Effie Kokrine Charter made off with a 72-50 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Espinosa, who earned 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Effie Kokrine Charter still be able to contain Espinosa? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
