Basketball Recap: Jackson Skates Past Southern Choctaw with Ease

Jackson entered their tilt with Southern Choctaw on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Southern Choctaw Indians 76-35. Given the Aggies' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Indians are ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jackson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Landon Duckworth, who went 5 of 10 en route to 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the most points Duckworth has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Taylor, who posted 12 points in addition to seven assists and six steals.

Jackson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Southern Choctaw still got an impressive performance from Tristan Hill, who had 11 points and five assists. Another player making a difference was Demarco Johnson, who put up 11 points.

Jackson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points per game. As for Southern Choctaw, their loss ended a 13-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jackson will host W.S. Neal at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Southern Choctaw, they and Millry will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played.
