Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Strasburg-Franklin

Strasburg-Franklin extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping their season record up to 14-8 in the process. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Hillsdale Falcons. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Miley Reifenschneider spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Strasburg-Franklin got a massive performance out of Olivia Spidell, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave Spidell a new career-high. Ella Gilkerson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Strasburg-Franklin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hillsdale only posted an OBP of .200.

As for Hillsdale, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-6. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Hillsdale's side, Kiki McFadden made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Fickes, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Looking ahead, Strasburg-Franklin will be taking part in a tournament against Tuscarawas Central Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Hillsdale, they will challenge Monroeville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Falcons 3.7, the Eagles 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
