Basketball Recap: Lynwood Skates Past Maywood Academy with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lynwood). They breezed by the Maywood Academy Nighthawks to the tune of 79-50 on Monday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Knights' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 573rd, while the Nighthawks are ranked 235th).

Several Nighthawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rodrigo Miranda, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten assists. Miranda has been hot for a while, having also posted three or more steals the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Fernando Payan, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Lynwood is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 3-4 record this season. As for Maywood Academy, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 8-1.

Lynwood will square off against Serra at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Maywood Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 58-40 loss against San Gabriel on the 11th.
