Baseball Recap: Martinsville Comes Up Short

Martinsville had lost five straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-11 to make it six. They lost 11-0 to the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs. The Artesians were not able to make up for their defeat to the Grizzly Cubs from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Franklin Community, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games.

For Franklin Community's part, Greyson Betts made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Betts has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Owen Bullington was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted over his last ten contests. Another player making a difference was Carsten Bland, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

While Martinsville had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
