Basketball Recap: East St. Louis' Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

After flying high against McCluer last Thursday, East St. Louis came back down to earth. The East St. Louis Flyers took a 69-50 bruising from the Alton Redbirds on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Flyers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 52-49 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why East St. Louis lost, don't look at Alex Johnson. Despite the final result, he went 11 for 20 on his way to 23 points along with seven boards and five steals. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Montreal Stacker, who posted ten points and five assists.

Even though they lost, East St. Louis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

East St. Louis' defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-14. As for Alton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-5.

East St. Louis will host Cardinal Ritter College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Alton, they will face off against East Peoria at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
