The Lutheran Lions will head out to challenge the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lutheran is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Lutheran took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They never let Air Academy get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory.
The result came thanks to Payden Joyce's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jack Hoy was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Wesolowski, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cheyenne Mountain sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Canon City on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Red-Tailed Hawks in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won five in a row.
Javin Eslinger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Cheyenne Mountain's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Charlie Scofield, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Lutheran's record is now 10-8. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their record now sits at 10-4-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Lutheran hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Cheyenne Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Lutheran couldn't quite get it done against Cheyenne Mountain when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 9-5. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
