Baseball Preview: Charleston Math & Science Riptide vs. St. John's Islanders
The Charleston Math & Science Riptide will venture away from home to square off against the St. John's Islanders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Charleston Math & Science can't be too happy about their upcoming road matchup considering what happened when they opened their season away from home on Friday. They came up short against Lowcountry Wildcats Athletics, falling 22-0. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it six in a row.
Meanwhile, St. John's made easy work of Timberland on Friday and carried off a 9-2 win. The Islanders haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Micah Davison made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, St. John's let Antonio Hernandez and Ben Shelton run wild. Hernandez went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Shelton went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Shelton has posted since back in March of 2025. Robert Grant was another key player, earning one RBI, three runs, and three stolen bases.
Charleston Math & Science might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from St. John's when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Can the Riptide avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
