Softball Recap: Great Bend Starts off Right with Win over Dodge City

Great Bend had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over the Dodge City Demons on Thursday. The Panthers have beaten the Demons the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Demons has come to flipping the script.

Braelyn Turner looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits.

At the plate, Denver Ringo was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Callie Umphres, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Great Bend always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dodge City only posted an OBP of .353.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Great Bend beat Dodge City by a score of 17-0 later that day.
