Basketball Game Preview: Holy Name Green Wave vs. Elyria Catholic Panthers

Holy Name is 0-10 against Elyria Catholic since December of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Holy Name Green Wave will welcome the Elyria Catholic Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Holy Name will be strutting in after a win while Elyria Catholic will be coming in after a defeat.

Holy Name is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Beaumont School: they outscored them in every quarter. Holy Name put the hurt on Beaumont School with a sharp 55-35 victory on Wednesday. The Green Wave have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Elyria Catholic unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell to St. Joseph Academy 38-33. The contest marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Elyria Catholic's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3. As for Holy Name, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Holy Name lost to Elyria Catholic at home by a decisive 66-50 margin when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Holy Name avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
