Baseball Game Preview: Richland Rebels vs. Plato Eagles

The Richland Rebels will square off against the Plato Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

On Tuesday, Richland didn't have quite enough to beat Stoutland and fell 9-8.

Mason Alexander was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off three hits. Alexander was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, London Smith made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Richland's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 7-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Owen Brown, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Plato was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Cabool.

Plato's defeat dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Richland, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

Richland got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April against Plato by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
