Baseball Game Preview: Holy Cross Cougars vs. Bethlehem Eagles

The Holy Cross Cougars will challenge the Bethlehem Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While Holy Cross' win against John Hardin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Bulldogs 5-4.

Jacob Sykes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Noah Basham, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Kaden Green was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Bethlehem waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Trojans.

Holy Cross' win bumped their record up to 14-15. As for Bethlehem, their victory bumped their record up to 19-13.

Holy Cross couldn't quite finish off Bethlehem in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 and fell 7-5. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
