Basketball Game Preview: Lee County Yellow Jackets vs. Scotland Fighting Scots

Lee County hasn't had much luck against Scotland recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Lee County Yellow Jackets will welcome the Scotland Fighting Scots at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lee County will bounce into Monday's game after beating Southern Lee, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Lee County managed a 51-47 victory over Southern Lee on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Yellow Jackets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while the Cavaliers are ranked 85th).

Meanwhile, Scotland hadn't done well against Richmond recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Scotland walked away with a 79-72 victory over Richmond. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Fighting Scots.

Lee County better keep an eye on Dajuan Gibson. He was instrumental in Scotland's win, going 6-for-11 from beyond the arc on his way to 37 points along with six rebounds and three steals. They are 3-1 when Gibson posts 20 or more points, but 3-15 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerrison Dixon, who posted nine points in addition to eight boards and six assists.

Scotland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 41 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Lee County has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points over those games. As for Scotland, their win bumped their record up to 6-16.

Everything came up roses for Lee County against Scotland when the teams last played on Tuesday, as the team secured an 87-53 victory. In that game, Lee County amassed a halftime lead of 48-22, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Monday.
