Softball Recap: Northwest Beats Western for Their Third Straight Win

Northwest waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Western Panthers as they made off with an 11-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mounties, who have now won three games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Lucy Bivens (2025) was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ari Good (2025), who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Ava Golightly (2025), who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Northwest's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Western, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Coming up, Northwest will square off against Howell at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Mounties' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Highlanders have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Western, they will welcome Harper Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
