Basketball Recap: Jaxon Perry and Dj Hawkins Secure Win for Pomona

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Dakota Ridge, Pomona was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 81-65 victory over the Littleton Lions. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 66-63 back in December of 2024.

Leading Pomona to victory were Dj Hawkins and Jaxon Perry. Hawkins went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 29 points along with six rebounds and six steals, while Perry went 10 of 17 en route to 26 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Those 26 points gave Perry a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ari Hartman, who posted six points and three steals.

Despite the loss, Littleton still got an impressive performance from Sam Lasswell, who went 9 of 20 to rack up 23 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Brooks, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Pomona's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 7-12. As for Littleton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.

Pomona and Littleton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Pomona will face off against Evergreen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 144 places (230 vs. 86). Pomona has given up an average of 63.3 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Similarly, Littleton (ranked 272nd) will meet Standley Lake (ranked 49th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pomona is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
