Preview: Richfield Wildcats vs. Emery Spartans
Richfield and Emery are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Richfield Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Emery Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Saturday, Richfield faced Beaver in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Richfield was the clear victor by a 52-32 margin over Beaver. Winning may never get old, but Richfield sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Richfield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hallie Janes out in front who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 2 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamryn Knutson, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Emery really took it to Delta for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-35 win on the road.
Emery's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kenadie Maughan, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds, and Katelyn Nielson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Nielson set a new season high mark in steals with three. Aliya Lester was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Richfield is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Emery, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Richfield beat Emery 52-39 when the teams last played back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for Richfield since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
