Baseball Recap: Stilwell Takes a Loss

Stilwell dropped to 4-4 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 7-1 to the Verdigris Cardinals. The matchup marked the Indians' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Stilwell saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mikey Sawney, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Sawney is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

As for Verdigris, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games.

On Verdigris' side, Boston Acosta spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Connor Stump was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Ian Lane was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

While Stilwell had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
