Basketball Recap: Brown County Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

Brown County proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 29) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 55-52 win over the Canton Little Giants. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hornets have posted since January 11, 2024.

Canton lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ava Gaines, who went 7 of 15 en route to 15 points and five steals. Gaines is becoming a predictor of Canton's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 9-4 (and 1-2 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Allison Wheeler, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 19 points.

Brown County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.4 points per game. As for Canton, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-6.

Brown County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 60-53 defeat against Pittsfield on the 28th. Canton has also already played their next contest, a 54-43 loss against Abingdon/Avon on the 28th.
