Football Recap: Bowdon Piles Up the Points Against Washington-Wilkes + How To Watch

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Bowdon had no problem doing just that on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Washington-Wilkes Tigers 54-24. Considering the Red Devils have won nine games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Bowdon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joshua Hopkins, who rushed for 131 yards and three TDs on only ten carries, and also threw for 196 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes. That's the most rushing touchdowns Hopkins has posted since back in August. Another rusher making a difference was Joshua Chandler, who rushed for 201 yards and a pair of scores on only 15 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bowdon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 335 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 175 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.

Despite the defeat, Washington-Wilkes saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mayson Mingle rushed for 63 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns. Calvin Wynn Jr was another key player, gaining 108 total yards.

Bowdon's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Washington-Wilkes, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.

Bowdon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 49-22 victory against Jenkins County on the 28th. Washington-Wilkes does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
