The Triton Central Tigers will take on the Covenant Christian Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Triton Central comes in on eight and Covenant Christian on three.
Triton Central proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 11) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Greenwood 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since April 16, 2024.
Triton Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brylie Couch, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Triton Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in nine consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Covenant Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Monrovia on Saturday, taking the game 9-5.
Braylin Boruff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emmy Nottingham, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Julia Hoffman, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Triton Central pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Covenant Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 13-10.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Triton Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. However, it's not like Covenant Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Triton Central beat Covenant Christian 10-5 in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
