Hesperia is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Friday. They lost 25-1 to Apple Valley.
Hesperia saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Malena Griego, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Sultana waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Diamondbacks. The Sultans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.
Savannah Vanderpool made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Vanderpool was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordan Mullinax, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Aaliyah Huizar was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Sultana was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in six consecutive matches.
Sultana pushed their record up to 17-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hesperia, their loss dropped their record down to 5-17-1.
Hesperia's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Scorpions have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Sultana, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hesperia continue to outrun the ball?
