Baseball Recap: Elk Grove's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Elk Grove had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Cardinal Newman on Saturday. Elk Grove put the hurt on Cardinal Newman with a sharp 6-0 win. This was payback for the Thundering Herd, who suffered a 5-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Cooper Gannon tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Elk Grove is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-2 otherwise.

At the plate, Chase Dyer was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Chase Groves, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

The victory (which was Elk Grove's third in a row) raised their record to 4-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cardinal Newman, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Coming up, Elk Grove will face off against Pleasant Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The match will give Elk Grove their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Cardinal Newman, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Cardinal Newman Cardinals take on Windsor Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
