Baseball Recap: Ludlow Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Ludlow had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on the Holmes Bulldogs with a sharp 13-2 win on Wednesday. With that victory, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Jackson Mays was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has become a key player for Ludlow: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Mays was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Ludlow let Joseph Scott and Parker Trenkamp run wild. Scott scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Trenkamp scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs Trenkamp has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Andre Englemon, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Ludlow always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win got Ludlow back to even at 5-5. As for Holmes, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Looking ahead, Ludlow will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Bishop Brossart at 5:00 p.m. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Holmes, they will head out to square off against Robertson County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
