Softball Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends Maple Grove's Winning Streak

Maple Grove dropped their record down to 8-4 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Stillwater Ponies by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Crimson have suffered since May 1, 2024.

As for Stillwater, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

For Stillwater's part, Ella Weisser spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks. Weisser has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Stillwater's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mackenzie Zrust, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Another was Amber Buchkoski, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Looking ahead, Maple Grove will head out to square off against Blaine at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bengals will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Crimson surely won't give up without a fight. As for Stillwater, they will host Park at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Ponies 3.1, the Wolfpack 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
