The Sumner Stingrays just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Jesuit Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sumner is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.5 points per game this season.
Sumner not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since January 27th (when they won 96-70). They put the hurt on Morgan with a sharp 68-46 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Stingrays.
Sumner's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aiden Higginbotham led the charge by shooting 86% from the field en route to 13 points along with seven boards and four steals. Another player making a difference was Devin Houston, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Sumner smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they hit their own glass that hard.
Meanwhile, Jesuit was able to grind out a solid win over Winthrop College Prep Academy last Tuesday, taking the game 54-45. The 54-point effort marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Sumner better keep an eye on Tyler Caouette. He was instrumental in Jesuit's win, dropping a double-double with 19 points and ten boards. The matchup was Caouette's third in a row with at least 15 points. Mike McLendon was another key player, putting up ten points.
Sumner's record is now 4-2. As for Jesuit, their record now sits at 5-0.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Sumner hasn't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 8.7 turnovers per game. However, it's not like Jesuit struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 9 turnovers. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Sumner came up short against Jesuit when the teams last played back in December of 2021, falling 52-47. Can the Stingrays avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
