The Southwood Knights will square off against the Cambridge City Lincoln Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwood is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
Southwood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over North Miami.
Natalie Sutphin made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up four earned runs off ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 26 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rowan Goodpasture, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Gracie Lambert was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Cambridge City Lincoln got the win against Union City on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Golden Eagles.
Like Southwood, Cambridge City Lincoln also got a great game from a two-way player: Lexi McPheeters. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. McPheeters was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Paige Pitcock was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Samantha Bell, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Cambridge City Lincoln always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Union City only posted an OBP of .333.
Southwood's record is now 19-10. As for Cambridge City Lincoln, their record now sits at 6-13.
