Basketball Recap: Carlin Piles Up the Points Against Mammoth

Carlin had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 31-point drubbing they dealt Mammoth on Thursday. The Carlin Railroaders blew past the Mammoth Huskies 44-13. That looming 44-13 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Railroaders yet this season.

Carlin was led to victory by Katelyn Jeffries and Kylie Kennedy. Jeffries posted 14 points and eight steals, while Kennedy dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Jeffries a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Kayona Christensen, who earned five points.

Mammoth's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Esme Carrillo, who put up six points. That was a full 46.2% of Mammoth's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

The win was the third in a row for Carlin, bringing their record for this year to 3-3. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.0 points per game. As for Mammoth, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
