Preview: Coolidge Colts vs. Anacostia Indians

Coolidge is 2-7 against Anacostia since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. After both having extra time off, both teams will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 5:30 p.m. on January 29th. Coolidge will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.

Last Wednesday, Coolidge faced Bell in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Coolidge breezed by Bell at home to the tune of 62-7. That 55 points margin sets a new team best for Coolidge this season.

Coolidge found their leader in underclassman Josslyn Derricott, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Derricott has scored at least a third of Coolidge's points. Another player making a difference was Jaylyn Derricott, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Anacostia fought the good fight in their overtime contest against DC International last Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Dragons by a score of 34-31. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Anacostia has suffered yet this season.

Coolidge has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. As for Anacostia, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8.

Coolidge beat Anacostia 41-30 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Will Coolidge repeat their success, or does Anacostia have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
