Soccer Game Preview: Starkville vs. Germantown

The Starkville Yellowjackets will face off against the Germantown Mavericks at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Starkville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Tupelo, who was ranked first at the time (Starkville was ranked tenth). Starkville took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tupelo on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Germantown hadn't done well against Clinton recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Germantown's defense stepped up to hand Clinton a 1-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mavericks.

Germantown has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 15 goals over those four matchups. As for Starkville, their loss dropped their record down to 10-2.
