Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Marion County

Marion County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Central Hardin Bruins. For the Knights, this counts as revenge for the 5-2 win the Bruins walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Gracyn Mattingly was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abbi Million, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Chloe Cox was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Marion County's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Central Hardin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-3.

Looking ahead, Marion County will square off against Mercer County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Marion County's pitchers better be ready for this one: Mercer County has averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season. As for Central Hardin, they will face off against Fort Knox at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Knox has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.4 runs per game on average), something Central Hardin will no doubt try to take advantage of.
