Basketball Recap: North Charleston Cougars vs. Conway Tigers
North Charleston unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 57-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Conway Tigers on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 44-29 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Richard Hazel III, who posted 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Marco Simpson, who scored 16 points plus three steals.
Even though they lost, North Charleston smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Conway only pulled down four.
Trevon Johnson went supernova for Conway, going 5 for 10 en route to 18 points plus three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Javion Crawford, who went 5 for 7 en route to 12 points plus five rebounds.
North Charleston didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 59-49 victory against Bethune-Bowman on the 26th. Conway has also already played their next matchup, a 52-46 defeat against Goose Creek on the 26th.
