Football Game Preview: Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Red Devils vs. Homer Trojans

The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Red Devils will be playing at home against the Homer Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Vernon-Verona-Sherrill took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand Chittenango a 45-0 shutout. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Red Devils' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Bears are ranked 349th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Homer). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 58-18 win over Cortland. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Trojans with their most commanding win of the season.

Vernon-Verona-Sherrill's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.6 points on average over those games. As for Homer, their record is now 5-3.

Vernon-Verona-Sherrill came up short against Homer in their previous matchup back in November of 2021, falling 62-49. Thankfully for the Red Devils, Sam Sorenson (who rushed for 226 yards and six scores while picking up 7.5 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
