Volleyball Recap: Parkway West Takes a Loss

Parkway West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ursuline Academy Bears. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Longhorns of the 2-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Parkway West wouldn't go down easily and took Ursuline Academy into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 18-25, 15-11.

Katie Byergo paced Parkway West's offense, picking up 14 kills. Byergo got some help from Elle Lanfersieck and her 25 assists. Lyla Surtin controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Parkway West's record is now 13-8-1. As for Ursuline Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Parkway West will face off against Parkway South at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ursuline Academy, they will square off against Incarnate Word Academy at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
