Football Recap: Granite City Takes a Loss

Granite City lost against Mt. Vernon back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Warriors were outmatched by the Rams and fell 62-6. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 458th, while the Rams are ranked 228th).

Jesus Atilano threw for 161 yards while completing 81% of his passes. Kaysen Emerson was his top target, picking up 82 receiving yards.

Granite City's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Mt. Vernon, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.

Granite City wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 21-13 loss against Doniphan on the 17th. As for Mt. Vernon, they have also already played their next game, a 48-44 defeat against Centralia on the 17th.
