Baseball Game Recap: Lancaster Red Devils vs. Essex Trojans

Lancaster extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 10-9 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 3-1 to the Essex Trojans, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 on Wednesday.

As for Essex, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games.

For Essex's part, Noah Thompson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits. Thompson has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Essex's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Keion Hence, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. The Trojans are undefeated when Hence posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-6 otherwise. Hunter Byrd was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Lancaster will be playing in front of their home fans against Arcadia at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Essex, they will take on Westmoreland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
