Softball Game Preview: Puyallup Vikings vs. Spanaway Lake Sentinels

The Puyallup Vikings will challenge the Spanaway Lake Sentinels at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Puyallup has five straight wins, Spanaway Lake has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Puyallup needed a bit of extra time to put away Montesano. They had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 6-5. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Kiera Thomas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kayla Ringenbach was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Paisley Jamison was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Puyallup kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Spanaway Lake came up short against Emerald Ridge on Tuesday, falling 19-4.

Puyallup's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Spanaway Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.

Puyallup took their victory against Spanaway Lake in their previous meeting back in May of 2016 by a conclusive 24-0 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sentinels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
