Basketball Preview: Mercer Christian Academy Cavaliers vs. Lewisburg Baptist Academy Lions
Mercer Christian Academy is 10-0 against the Lions since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Mercer Christian Academy Cavaliers will head out on the road to face off against the Lewisburg Baptist Academy Lions at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Mercer Christian Academy stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 57-24 win over Victory Baptist Academy. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Mercer Christian Academy had established a 28 point advantage.
Mercer Christian Academy can attribute much of their success to Kayley Trump, who scored 13 points along with six steals and five rebounds, and Ella Botts, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten steals. Botts also pulled down eight rebounds for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karis Trump, who scored seven points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for Lewisburg Baptist Academy, as they earned their first road win of the season. They breezed by New Life Christian Academy on the road to the tune of 51-20 on Monday. Lewisburg Baptist Academy's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Mercer Christian Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Lewisburg Baptist Academy, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Mercer Christian Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Lions when the teams last played back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 43-38 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mercer Christian Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
