Recap: Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles vs. Shadow Ridge Mustangs

If the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles were riding high off their 56-14 takedown of the Rodriguez Mustangs on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Gray Collegiate Academy took a 52-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Shadow Ridge on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Gray Collegiate Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 85th in South Carolina, while Shadow Ridge is ranked 20th in Nevada).

Despite the defeat, Gray Collegiate Academy had strong showings from Kadence Walker-lee, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Karlee Phelps, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Walker-lee scored a full 48.8% of Gray Collegiate Academy's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Gray Collegiate Academy now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Shadow Ridge, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.

Gray Collegiate Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Josey at 2:00 p.m. on January 1, 2024. Shadow Ridge and Denver South will face off at 4:05 p.m. on December 21st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Denver South focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Wednesday.
