Basketball Recap: Rector Takes a Loss

Rector saw some tournament action on Tuesday. They took a 43-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Portageville Bulldogs. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Rector lost, don't look at Rylee Wilburn. Despite the final result, she went 7-for-14 en route to 18 points and eight rebounds. Wilburn's big performance that evening made it 13 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points.

Rector's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Portageville, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rector will wrap up 2025 with a road trip to face off against Bald Knob at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Portageville and New Madrid County Central, As for Portageville, after both having extra time off, will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:30 p.m. on January 5, 2026.
