Football Recap: Coventry Christian Falls Short Against Ranked Chincoteague

Coventry Christian is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Chincoteague. Coventry Christian was outmatched by Chincoteague and fell 40-12. That's two games in a row now that Coventry Christian has lost by exactly 28 points.

Despite the loss, Coventry Christian still got an impressive performance from Luke Hunter, who rushed for 106 yards on only 15 carries, and also picked up 85 receiving yards. Hunter's longest reception was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.

Camaury Davis produced another solid effort rushing for 167 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.8 yards per carry for Chincoteague. Davis has become a key player for the Ponies: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was JDarius Davis, who picked up five receiving yards and one TD.

Coventry Christian's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-2. As for Chincoteague, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Coventry Christian will square off against Model Secondary School for the Deaf at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
